WBJEE, COMEDK, and MHCET are three of the most reputed state-level engineering entrance exams in India. They are conducted for admissions in their respective states, WBJEE for colleges all over West Bengal, MHTCET for colleges all over Maharashtra, and COMEDK for colleges in South India. What is WBJEE and what should one know before appearing for it?
West Bengal Joint Entrance Exams, commonly abbreviated as WBJEE is a state-government-controlled centralized engineering entrance exam for admission in engineering colleges in West Bengal. It is conducted by West Bengal Joint Entrance Exams Board or WBJEE once every year, mostly around February.
WBJEE provides admission in top engineering institutions like:
1. Jadavpur University
2. Calcutta University
3. University of Kalyani
4. Institute of Engineering and Management
5. Techno India
6. Heritage Institute of Technology
Eligibility Criteria to appear for WBJEE Engineering Entrance Exams are as follows:
West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam Board has drafted a list of criteria that one needs to fulfil to be eligible for WBJEE.
1. Students must have passed the 10+2 examination with physics and mathematics along with any one of chemistry, biotechnology, biology, computer science, computer application, technical vocational subject as a compulsory subject.
2. Students should pass the 10+2 from the board, which is recognized by the Central Government or State Government concerned.
3. Students must have passed English in the 10+2 examination with at least 30% marks.
4. Students must have obtained at least 45% marks and 40% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category, e.g., SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PWD in the above three subjects taken together.
Students should be at least 17 years old as on December 31, 2021, and must be a citizen of India. WBJEEB has not declared any upper age limit for appearing in the entrance exams.
Domicile requirement for WBJEE:
Candidates residing in West Bengal for the past 10 years or having parents who are permanent residents of West Bengal are the only ones who are eligible for government-funded engineering colleges in West Bengal. There is no need for domicile proof for appearing in the exams.
What is COMEDK and what should one know before appearing for it?
The consortium of Medical, Engineering, and Dental Colleges of Karnataka or COMEDK conducts common entrance tests that provide admissions in above 150 private engineering colleges in Karnataka. The entrance test is followed by centralized counselling.

Eligibility criteria to appear for COMEDK is as follows:
1. Students should pass the 10+2 from the board, which is recognized by the Central Government or State Government concerned.
2. Students must have obtained a minimum aggregate of 45% of marks (40% marks for SC, ST, and OBC candidates of Karnataka) in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
3. No lateral entry is allowed in any course.
4. Students must have Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with English as a compulsory subject for 10+2 exams.
5. Students must have passed Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics exams individually.
What is MHT CET and what should one know before appearing for it?
The Maharashtra Health and Technical Common Entrance Test or MHT CET conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Government of Maharashtra is a state-level entrance test for admission in various undergraduate courses including BTech. It is conducted online, once every year, and is announced to be conducted in August, this year.

Eligibility criteria to appear for MHT CET is as follows:
- The student must be a citizen of India.
2. The student must have passed the 12th exam from a recognized board.
3. Students must have obtained an of minimum 50% (45% for SC, ST, and OBC) aggregate marks in Class 12 or equivalent exam in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
4. The student must obtain qualifying marks in JEE Main Paper 1.
All students who have passed their 12th Boards exams can appear for the Maharashtra Health and Technical Common Entrance Test 2021 and have no age limit for sitting in the exams.
